Skin cancer is a malignant disease of the dermis. This form of the tumor-like process is considered one of the most common in the world. The exact causes of the development of oncology have not been clarified, scientists have agreed only on predisposing factors. Depending on the stage, type of cancer, an appropriate therapeutic regimen is selected.
Types of skin cancer
There are 3 types of frequently occurring skin tumors of a malignant nature. They differ in the incidence rate, the degree of danger to life – these are basalioma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma. The latter variety is considered the rarest, but the most dangerous. Melanoma is responsible for almost 80% of deaths in this location.
Prevention methods
The main goal of preventing skin cancer is to minimize exposure of the unprotected area of the dermis to prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. Also, preventive measures include:
- from 11 am to 4 pm, no sunbathing;
- it is undesirable to visit solariums;
- long-term non-healing fistulas, ulcers need to be treated;
- protecting scars from mechanical injury.
If a neoplasm appears on the skin, you need to urgently consult a doctor. The earlier cancer is detected, the better the prognosis.
Treatment
When choosing a therapeutic regimen, the type and stage of the tumor process are taken into account. The main treatment methods include:
- surgical intervention;
- radiation therapy;
- chemotherapy;
- cryosurgery;
- laser therapy;
- drug treatment.
The most effective methods are chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
